Today the Dallas Cowboys released several players to trim their
roster to 53 players. A few big names are WR, Danny Coale, LB Orie
Lemon, DB, Ed Whitley, OG, Ronald Leary, and OLB Adrian Hamilton were
among the cuts. I am also hearing that running backs Lance Dunbar and
Phillip Tanner both did in fact make the roster. There were a few other
cuts as well defensive back Lionel Smith, defensive end Ben Bass,
defensive tackle Rob Calloway, OT Jeff Adams, tight end Andrew Szczerba,
OG/C Harland Gunn,WR Saalim Hakim, G Daniel Loper, OT Pat McQuistan and
defensive end Clifton Geathers were also cut to get down to 53.
Danny Coale was a draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys but struggled
because of injuries. Look for Adrian Hamilton the nation sack leader
last year and Orie Lemon to make a team, if they don’t they will
definitely be brought back to the Cowboys practice squad.
Update: FB, Shaun Chapas was also released today per ESPN Dallas
Update: QB, Rudy Carpenter went via twitter to say he had been released
“Thankful for the opportunity Dallas it’s been great!”

Dallas Cowboys Scouting the Philadelphia Eagles – a Fan’s Take
The Dallas Cowboys hope to avenge an early season loss to the
Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve and have a chance to clinch a
playoff spot if they win and the New York Giants lose. Dallas can also
mathematically eliminate the Eagles from playoff competition as well
with a defeat.
Owner Jerry Jones has already stated he is scared of the Eagles and here is a look at the players Dallas should be afraid of.
LeSean McCoy
LeSean McCoy has 1,274 rushing yards on the season and 17 touchdowns. He ran for 185 of those yards against the Dallas Cowboys. He also ran for two of his touchdowns against Dallas. Sure, he did it with the Cowboys losing defensive starters Sean Lee and Mike Jenkins but he did it anyway. McCoy is the man the Cowboys must stop if they want to gain vengeance on the Eagles.
Michael Vick
At the start of the season, people asked who you would rather have in fantasy football between Aaron Rodgers and Michael Vick. Now, people question if Vick is even worth starting in fantasy football. Vick has struggled with injuries and recently suffered the same rib injuries that Tony Romo did earlier in the season. However, Vick sat out and let them heal. Last time against Dallas, Vick threw for 279 yards with two touchdowns. Dallas has allowed 20 touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks. Once they stop McCoy, they have to contain Vick.
Jason Babin
It is interesting. A few weeks ago, DeMarcus Ware and Jared Allen were battling for the 2011 sack crown and both men had Michael Strahan's record in their cross-hairs. Now, it looks like neither man will reach it and someone new has passed them both in the sack race. Jason Babin has back-to-back three sack games heading into the Dallas matchup. When he played Dallas last time, he had two sacks. With eight sacks in the last three weeks, Babin could be the man to break the record.
Author Shawn S. Lealos has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma (2000) and has been a Dallas Cowboys' fan since he was a child. His favorite players range from Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett to the Triplets of the 90s and he enjoys talking about all Cowboys' related news, good or bad

Miles Austin injury update: Dallas Cowboys veteran receiver likely out for preseason
Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones is not expecting
wide receiver Miles Austin play in the team’s final two preseason games.
Austin has been sidelined since Aug. 4 with a strained hamstring. Austin has had hamstring problems in the past, and the team is being cautious with the veteran receiver to make sure he does not miss the Sept. 5 season opener against the New York Giants.

Jones believes the two-time Pro Bowler will be available for the team’s opening game.
"We're basically just wanting to make sure he's ready for New York," Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas/Fort Worth on Tuesday. "That's where it's all headed for him. He probably will need some work, just logic tells you, before he gets in the game, but we're not interested in seeing him (play in the preseason).
"The risks of him getting out there and really competing at this time would I think be overruled (by) the game we have for him being completely healthy in New York. Now, I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you he could go if we were playing New York tonight, and we will have him as ready as he can be for that. So that's the plan."
A strained hamstring also sidelined Austin during the 2011 preseason, and hamstring injuries caused Austin to miss six games last season.
Dallas’ passing game has taken plenty of hits this preseason and left Tony Romo's top three targets with their statuses in question for opening week. Tight end Jason Witten suffered a lacerated spleen in the team’s preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders. The team will re-evaluate him this week and should have a better idea about his opening game status then. If his spleen doesn't show improvement, Witten may need surgery.
Wide receiver Dez Bryant has been diagnosed with patellar tendinitis.
"It sounds like that he's going to be fine," Jones told KRLD-FM of Bryant. "We'll see how it works. I would think he's probably going to be limited this weekend, but we were quite relieved that he doesn't have any structural damage in there."

San Diego Chargers’ Battle to Avoid Move to Los Angeles May Depend on Success of 2012 NFL Season
COMMENTARY | The San Diego Chargers are in the midst of a critical time with respect to their future in San Diego.
On Monday, Chargers' special counsel, Mark Fabiani joined XTRA Sports 1360's "The World of Sports with Chris and Ben" and spoke about the issues surrounding the team's bid to get a new stadium built in San Diego. While most of his rhetoric was all too familiar to Chargers fans, it simply reaffirmed that winning immediately is critical.
That's because 2012 may be the team's last chance to convince voters in San Diego that the Chargers are a worthwhile investment when it comes to their tax dollars. As of now, the biggest issues stemming from the ten-year fight to acquire a fitting home for the team in the San Diego area have been funding and finding appropriate land. Currently, a downtown San Diego site is the most viable opiton.
Fabiani mentioned that the community will have a more defined course of action once a new mayor is in place following elections in the fall. Though he would not comment on any candidates that would be better suited for working with the team on the issue, he did say that they would aggressively work with whichever candidate assumes the job.
The good news for Chargers faithful is that the new collective bargaining agreement allows for a $200 million loan from the NFL. "The league values having a team here," said Fabiani. "The league will do whatever it can to help us get a stadium."
While the efforts of the front office and the league are well-documented, the team itself needs to step up in order to give fans a reason to want the team to stay. Though the Chargers haven't had a losing season since 2003, it stands to reason that a disappointing regular season in 2012 at such an important juncture in the franchise's San Diego history could spell disaster with respect to Fabiani's efforts and the stadium project in general.
Whether or not the hard work on behalf of the Chargers to stay in San Diego pays off remains to be seen. The fact remains that there is still a lot of important work to do, both on and off the field, to reach an agreement on a world-class facility.
The best thing the team can do to help its cause is win -- immediately and often -- in 2012.

FC Dallas beats Vancouver to continue surge Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/08/16/4186559/fc-dallas-beats-vancouver-to-continue.html#storylink=cpy
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Fabian Castillo and second-half
substitute Jonathan Top scored five minutes apart to give FC Dallas a
2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS action Wednesday.
Dallas, who entered the game as the obvious underdog, improved to 7-11-8 while winning for the fourth time in the past seven games. The Whitecaps (10-8-7) suffered only their second loss at home.
Both Dallas goals came in the second half of a game which generated more yellow cards -- nine -- than scoring chances. Vancouver received six while Dallas got three.
The Whitecaps clearly missed attackers Darren Mattocks and Dane Richards, who were away on international duty with Jamaica. Meanwhile, captain Jay DeMerit sat out with a concussion and midfielder Gershon Koffie served a one-game suspension for taking his fifth yellow card of the season Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
Neither team mounted much pressure in the first half. The most drama occurred in the 45th minute as Vancouver's Camilo put a curling free kick off the crossbar from the corner of the 18-yard box after Dallas was called for a hand-ball infraction.
Moments later, Camilo received a yellow card for taking down Andrew Jacobson.
The Whitecaps threatened early in the second half, forcing Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman to catch a long lead ball intended for Harris and, two minutes later, punch away a Barry Robson free kick from the right flank.
Castillo opened scoring in the 60th minute as he put in a shot off the post from about 10 yards out while falling down. Dallas caught the Whitecaps napping as Zach Lloyd made a long throw-in and David Ferreira's header flicked the ball on to him. Castillo eluded Vancouver defender Martin Bonjour.
Top put Dallas ahead 2-0 in the 65th on a pass from Ferreira, who won a struggle for a long ball with O'Brien, and sent him a pass. Bonjour was the goat again as Top sidestepped him before scoring.
Bonjour will be suspended for Saturday's game in Seattle after taking his fifth yellow card of the season in the 34th minute. Dallas midfielder Jacobson also earned himself a suspension for the same reason after knocked down Robson in the 81st minute.
Ferreira's suspect injury led to a skirmish in the 86th minute after Vancouver's Jun Marques Davidson pulled him up.
NOTES: Before the game, the Whitecaps saluted Canada's Olympic bronze-medal-winning women's soccer team. The crowd gave B.C. natives Karina LeBlanc, defender Sophie Schmidt and defender Emily Zurrer a standing ovation as they led players and officials onto the field. ... Whitecaps midfielder Russell Teibert (Canada) and defender Carlyle Mitchell (Trinidad and Tobago) were also away on international duty as their countries faced each other in a friendly in Florida. Rarely used striker Etienne Barbara missed his second straight game due to international duty with Malta. ... Dallas midfielders Julian de Guzman (Canada) and Brek Shea (U.S.) also skipped the game to be with their national squads.
